Indie Music Communities

These are free communities to join that will give you great free promotional opportunities. Some may require some of your time (i.e., getting involved playing the playlist(s) or posting socials media promos), we will indicate which ones those are with a . Many have a presence on all social media platforms, some are only contactable mainly through one platform—again, we will supply the best way to contact them and get involved. New Artist Spotlight (NAS)

A large (450+ members), very active, indie artist discord community founded by Ed Eagle. Uses all social media platforms. Has a points based system that rewards your activity to get more exposure. Does require some setup, but they give you a mentor to help you go through the setup phase when you first join the group. Very supportive of all indie musicians and does not exclude AI music.

Indie Boom Shockwave

A very active community with lots of Twitch/YouTube streamers setup by James Allan Stellar. They mainly use Discord and X to talk to and support each other, but mainly stream on Twitch and YouTube—as well as do special events on Bandcamp. Very supportive of any indie artist—including sometimes buying their music on Bandcamp! They do not play AI music.

Uncle Funkbeard

Uncle, as those who follow him affectionately call him, has a live Twitch/YouTube indie music show twice a week. His shows are well supported and growing rapidly in popularity. This is a great way to get into the indie music community globally and get lots of exposure for your music.

Specifically for musicians in New Zealand:

NZ Music Industry Collective Facebook page with its associated magazine https://www.muzic.nz/ where you can get your album/EP reviewed for free.
